Dragon Eggs --------------------- Here are the locations of the Dragon Eggs: 1. Alunze Castle basement 2. Cave to Sundletan, with Hook 3. Merix, after bridge is fixed 4. North Labyrinth 5. North Lighthouse (3 crate puzzle) 6. Flower Mountain, after spike maze 7. North Cave near Dankirk 8. Divine Shrine, playing notes Once you have all eight (and the sub), Warp to Pico. Take Excerion underwater and sail west through the channel to the island. Surface and enter the shrine. If you have all eight Eggs, the Egg Dragon will give you a choice of four wishes: 1. A set of 10 potions (the stat-boosting kind). 2. A set of 20 fruits. 3. Ancient Shield. 4. A set of Super Rings. Wish #4 is pretty useless, since all the Super Rings are available elsewhere in the game. Wish #2 is useful. You need fruits to get your Capsule Monsters to level M (see the Capsule Monster section). However, you can get the fruits from other enemies. I recommend the Ancient [Old] Shield, then take the potions. After you make your wish, the Egg Dragon will scatter the eggs to chests around the world. Go to each dungeon and use the Jewel Sonar from the Casino. If it rings, there's a Dragon Egg there (unless you missed a chest). This is easiest with the airship. The subsequent placements of eggs are random. Don't forget to check the cave where you got Zeppy. I had an egg there once that took me 2 days to find. After you make four wishes, the Egg Dragon will tell you that he's out of wishes. You can then fight him. You'll only have a chance in Retry mode. Maxim and Guy both need Dragon Blades from the casino, and everybody should be at level 99 (which is not that hard to reach in Retry). Alternately, you could give either Maxim or Guy a Lizard Blow sword, as its IP attack is very useful on the Egg Dragon. Be sure to save your game before you take him on. Maxim and Guy should use their swords' IP and then use regular hits. Spells do almost no damage to him, so just use physical attacks and IPs (like the always useful Triple Attack). Selan should cast Champion every turn, even if nobody's hurt, because he gets to go before you. Artea should use stat-boosting spells like Trick and Shield. When those stop working, have him attack. His Scrambled Egg attack does 500- 600 damage to a single character, Sunny-side Up does 200-300 to the whole party, and Easy-over (as if anything associated with the Egg Dragon can be considered "easy") can confuse the whole party. I tried to keep track of how much HP he has, but I lost count. Suffice to say, it's a LOT. If you beat him (it can take a half hour or more) then you get the pretty worthless Egg Sword and the Egg Ring, which raises all your stats to 999! (except Guts, which goes up to 199) Ancient Cave --------------------- Did you think Daos was too easy? Well, here's where all the difficulty went. Since the Cave is random every time you enter, I can't write a walkthrough. Instead, here are some general tips: - You'll never be able to beat the Cave on your first visits. Instead, just get some blue chests, find Providence, and leave. - Providence is supposed to be on level 21, but I've found it as low as B28. If you don't get it on 21, don't give up, just keep going. - Always open every chest, even the red ones. The Iris Treasures are found in red chests. - So far, I've found the following items in blue chests: Water Gaunt, Catfish Jewel, Snow Sword, Mega Ax, Mirak Plate, Sky Sword, Spido Jewel, Camu Jewel, Bolt Shield, Ice Hairband, Blaze Sword, Aqua Helm, Gades Blade, Engage Ring, Dia Ring, Silver Eye, Dark Mirror, Gold Eye, Boom Sword, Sizzle Sword, Water Spear, Ruse Armor, Spark Staff, Boom Turban, Agony Helm, Gorgon Rock, Cryst Shield, Flame Shield, Dragon Spear, Blaze Sword, Fry Sword, Gloom Jewel, Water Jewel, Air Whip, Bolt Shield, Agony Helmet, Earring, Sea Ring, Twist Jewel, Thundo Jewel, Gold Eye, Black Eye, Dia Ring, Silver Eye, Earth Jewel, Apron Shield, Ice Hairband, Tidal Jewel, Sea Ring, Apron Shield, Air Whip - On level 70 or so, you start encountering Archfiends. Hopefully, you will have Fry or Zap. - Stronger is a very important spell to get. Champion just costs too much MP. - Cut every bush. Occasionally you will find a healing tile (you can sort of see the tile through the bush). There are no magic tiles. - If you manage to make to B99, you fight a huge jelly. If you beat it, you get the Key to the Dungeon, that lets you open the locked door behind the old guy who gives you instructions (pick up the crate that's part of the desk). The chests in there contain the Brill Helm, Light Jewel, and Dragon Ring. Also, the huge jelly becomes an Iris Treasure (just talk to the woman and she'll display it). - If you're about to die, use Providence. Try to keep going for as long as you can, though. - MP is an important commodity. Try to save it for healing. - It's tempting to avoid fights, but you do need to fight, especially early on. - Oddly, I've found you can take various stones into the Ancient Cave, even though I didn't get them in blue chests (or even anywhere else; sometimes they just show up in your inventory). - The Ancient Cave is easiest in Gift mode, because then you can take Dekar. I would recommend a party of Maxim, Guy, Dekar, and Artea. - If you find a healing tile, be sure to kill all the monsters on that floor for experience, since you can always come back for healing. - When you find a room with a lot of monsters, it also has a lot of chests. - Armor is very important. If you get armor early on, it's much easier. - If you see Cores (they look like white cubes), chase after them. They'll usually run away, but you can get great experience if you win. - Flash is by far the best capsule monster in the Ancient Cave because of his healing abilities. Feed him any equipment you're not using. - Absorb is a very useful spell in the Ancient Cave, since it's hard to get MP. If you get it, cast it when you're fighting weak enemies. - Be careful about cursed items. If you equip one, you're stuck with it until you find the Curselifter. Cursed items are often pretty good if you uncurse them, so hang onto them. - If you get the Dark Mirror, it's the best shield in the game. Don't uncurse it or it becomes useless.
